Taxi driver robbed in Midlands by pregnant woman after fare dispute

Marie Pritchard, a pregnant lady and Michael Ward robbed a taxi driver after a dispute over paying by a single £20 note or two £10 notes.

When the couple got out of the cab, Mr Ward hit the driver and grabbed the fare money from the drivers hand along with his mobile phone.

Both people already have a range of previous offences for which they were on bail.

The court in Wolverhampton heard how Ms Pritchard, who has now given birth, snatched the taxi drivers keys before fleeing from the scene.

The drunken couple were also involved in other earlier incidents prior to stealing from the taxi driver. The incidents included an altercation with a gentleman in Tividale who was verbally threatened with physical violence. After which the man’s car windscreen, wing mirror and tyre were damaged, as well as his house door was kicked a few times by Mr Ward.

A follow-up second incident occurred, whereby Mr Ward drove to a friend’s mothers residence, causing damage to windows of a property and car windscreen.

The defendents attorney, Mr Sandhu pleaded that the couple were extremely apologetic and any violent threats were not real and occurred due to their drunken state.

The sentencing judge, Amjad Nawaz, sympathised with the tragic victims and their sufferring.

Both were convicted of affray and robbery.

Mr Ward additionally was convicted of making threats to kill, criminal damage and carrying a sharp instrument, and was jailed for four years and four months in total.

Ms Pritchard also had an additional offence of breaching court orders, and was jailed for four years in total.
